What is Skin Cell Senescence?

By now, you’ve probably heard about our Antidote No1 and its amazing benefits for the skin. But you might still be wondering, what exactly is Skin Cell Senescence?

All cells degenerate over time and our skin shows this degeneration in the form of ageing (fine lines, wrinkles and age spots).

Cellular senescence happens when our cells no longer have the ability to multiply. This then causes our skin to deteriorate on a cellular level, leading to loss of elasticity and firmness, which are some of the most common causes of wrinkles and fine lines.

Senescent Skin Cells cause:

Decline of skin function and integrity.
Impaired tissue homeostasis, regeneration and youthful tissue structure/function.
Loss of collagen, skin thinning and wrinkles – the over expression of molecules (senescence-associated secretory phenotype) disrupts the stroma and thus contributes to dermal atrophy.
Chronic inflammation to the outer layer of the skin – senescent cells can accelerate ageing phenotypes through the loss of tissue homeostasis by promoting chronic inflammation, persistent degradation of the extracellular matrix, and stem cell exhaustion .

To combat these issues, our team of experts have been able to harness the power of the red kidney bean. Through their study, our team discovered that lectins, the proteins derived from the red kidney bean, were proven to reduce wrinkles and significantly improve skin smoothness, moisture and elasticity. Our Antidote therefore uses a unique ingredient called T-Mero-Protect®. This helps to boost cellular activation and restore skin’s youthful radiance.
